Student Council .
Lead Coordinators: Mr. Perry and Ms. Torres
Description:
Student Council is one of the many extra-curricular activities that students can elect to participate in at Immaculate Heart of Mary School. Student Council, a student government organization, gives students a voice in determining school activities and environment. It helps promote activities for the entire student body and promotes a positive climate throughout the school.
Fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh graders are eligible to run for Student Council positions. The Student Council commissioners are elected by their peers during the month of May. Each elected student representative is asked to collect signatures from their peers and faculty, create campaign posters, and present a speech to the IHM student body. Student Council needs hard working, artistic, enjoyable, caring students who can handle responsibility.
Student Council members must attend a meeting every Wednesday after school (3:00-3:30 p.m.). During each meeting, members plan and organize activities for each month and also work in their prospective positions. The Student Council chooses different charities or causes to raise awareness and money. $1.00 Denim days are also scheduled throughout the school year to purchase much needed school materials and equipment. Yearly, Student Council has been responsible for planning and carrying out fundraising activities such as: bake sales, ice cream float sales, back to school activities, Halloween activities and parade, Fall Fashion Show, Military Day, Catholic Schools' Week activities, candy-gram sales, all other holiday activities and much more. Student Council has also been responsible for planning and participating in prayer services, rosaries, and school masses.
