More than a third of today's students in grades K through 12 face issues that can adversely affect their ability to learn. Problems such as child abuse, sexual abuse, drugs, bullying, and parent/child conflict often manifest as classroom disruptions, poor attention, low grades and even self-destructive behavior. LAUSD-funded counselors work with students on a confidential, one-on-one basis to help them overcome obstacles that impact classroom performance.
